Sun Sep 22 07:50:58 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Sworn in as Delhi’s Chief Minister, Replacing Kejriwal
**New Delhi, India** – Atishi, a senior leader of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday. The ceremony, held at the Raj Niwas, saw Atishi and her cabinet ministers take the oath of office and secrecy from Lieutenant Governor Vinay Kumar Saxena.
Atishi, the representative for Delhi’s Kalkaji constituency, becomes the third woman to hold the Chief Minister’s post in Delhi and also the youngest. Her ascension follows the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, who stepped down after being granted bail in the liquor policy scam by the Supreme Court.
The AAP legislature party unanimously chose Atishi as their leader on September 17th. Along with Atishi, the new cabinet includes familiar faces from the previous Kejriwal government, including Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, and Imran Hussain. Mukesh Ahlawat, a first-time MLA from Sultanpur Majra, is the only new entrant in the cabinet. His inclusion, being the only Dalit representative, is expected to strengthen the AAP’s outreach to backward communities.
The swearing-in ceremony was a low-key affair, with no grand displays of strength or boasting from the party, as they look towards the upcoming Assembly elections. Atishi, who previously held 13 portfolios including finance, revenue, and education, is seen as a strong and experienced leader capable of effectively filling the void left by Kejriwal and former Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia.
Despite the recent setbacks and Kejriwal’s resignation, the party remains confident in their leader and continues to emphasize their commitment to serving the people of Delhi.
