**Dhaka, Bangladesh (September 22, 2024):** India dominated Bangladesh in the opening test match of the two-match series, securing a resounding 280-run victory and taking a 1-0 lead.
The victory came on the back of a phenomenal bowling performance from India, led by Ravichandran Ashwin’s six wickets for 88 runs. Ashwin, who also scored a century in India’s first innings, was awarded the Player of the Match.
Bangladesh, set a mammoth target of 515 runs to win, were bowled out for 234. Only captain Najmul Hossain Shanto offered any resistance, scoring 82 runs.
India’s captain, Rohit Sharma, praised his bowling attack, highlighting their ability to exploit the red-soil pitch. “No matter what the conditions are, whether we play in India or outside, we want to build the team around that,” he said.
The second and final test match of the series is scheduled to begin in Kanpur on Friday.
