Fri Sep 20 11:37:54 UTC 2024: ## Williams Open to Talks With Sauber for Colapinto’s 2025 F1 Seat

Williams Racing is open to conversations with Sauber about a potential move for their rookie driver, Franco Colapinto, for the 2025 Formula 1 season. Team boss James Vowles expressed his confidence in Colapinto’s abilities, highlighting his impressive performance against experienced teammate Alex Albon.

“From our perspective, Franco is an incredible driver on the grid that is proving himself against Alex, who is a benchmark driver,” Vowles stated. “From their perspective, if they wanted to, we’d be open to conversations around it.”

Colapinto, 21, has impressed with his performances since joining Williams, securing a top-ten finish in his second race and consistently outperforming Albon. Vowles emphasized that Colapinto’s talent has been consistently overlooked due to limited opportunities and financial constraints.

Sauber, set to become the Audi factory team in 2026, is currently assessing their options for the second driver seat for next season. They have not yet confirmed their driver lineup and are considering several candidates, including their current drivers Valtteri Bottas and Zhou Guanyu, as well as F2 leader Gabriel Bortoleto.

Vowles suggested that Sauber should consider Colapinto’s performance in the upcoming races before making a final decision. “If I was them, I’d take the time to see how Franco performs against the next two races, maybe a little bit more than that, then make a decision,” he advised.

With six rounds of races remaining, including three sprint events, before the season concludes in early December, Colapinto has the opportunity to further showcase his talents and potentially secure a coveted F1 seat for next season.
