**Chattogram, Bangladesh:** Rishabh Pant’s wicketkeeping continues to be a cause for concern for India, as he made a costly DRS blunder on Day 2 of the first Test against Bangladesh, leaving pacer Mohammed Siraj furious.
The incident occurred during the Bangladesh innings when Siraj trapped Zakir Hasan leg-before. Despite a strong appeal, the umpire turned down the shout. Skipper Rohit Sharma consulted Pant who, believing the ball would miss leg stump, advised against a review. However, replays showed that the ball would have hit the leg stump, meaning India had missed a golden opportunity to claim a wicket.
A visibly upset Siraj was clearly frustrated with the decision, while Pant later apologized to him. While Pant’s batting prowess often overshadows his keeping shortcomings, this incident highlights the need for improvement behind the stumps.
Despite the blunder, India’s bowlers dominated the day, with Jasprit Bumrah claiming three wickets in his spell. Akash Deep and Bumrah also picked up two wickets apiece, leaving Bangladesh reeling at 112 for eight at tea.
The Indian bowlers capitalized on a weak Bangladesh batting performance, which saw them collapse to a paltry total after India’s impressive 376 in their first innings.
