Sean “Diddy” Combs, the renowned rapper and music mogul, has been placed on suicide watch at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn, following his indictment on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. The 54-year-old, who was denied bail twice, has been described as being in shock and experiencing a drastic lifestyle change from his usual life of luxury to the harsh realities of prison life.

Experts have voiced concerns about Combs’ mental state, given the stark contrast between his previous lifestyle and his current environment. John Fuller, a celebrity prison coach, noted that Combs’ A-list status may make it difficult for him to adapt to the limitations of prison.

The MDC, known for its “dangerous” and “horrifying” conditions, has a high rate of inmate suicides and murders, prompting authorities to implement protective measures for Combs. While his lawyer Marc Agnifilo maintains that Combs is not suicidal and focused on fighting the charges, the stress of his situation is undeniable.

Former lawyer Michael Cohen described the stark reality of Combs’ situation: “When he wakes up, he’s staring at cinder block painted white walls, as opposed to whatever the decor of his mansions were.”

This situation highlights the serious issue of suicide within the prison system. According to a Bureau of Justice Statistics report, suicide is the leading cause of death in jail, with 30 percent of all deaths being self-inflicted.

Combs’ next court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 24, at 10 a.m.
