Fri Sep 20 12:40:03 UTC 2024: ## Battlefield Returns to its Roots with Focus on 64-Player Action

EA is taking Battlefield back to its glory days with the next installment of the franchise, according to Vince Zampella, head of Respawn Entertainment and EA Studios GM. The game will ditch the controversial Specialists and return to a traditional class system, reminiscent of the beloved Battlefield 3 and Battlefield 4 eras.

“The peak of Battlefield is that Battlefield 3/Battlefield 4 era,” Zampella shared with IGN. “We have to get back to the core of what Battlefield is and do that amazingly well.” This means a return to a modern-day setting, expected to be somewhere between 2025 and 2030, and a 64-player max per match – a far cry from the divisive 128-player matches introduced in Battlefield 2042.

Zampella also confirmed that the new Battlefield will feature a robust community test program, a welcome change for fans after the lackluster launch of recent Battlefield games. He added that the development team has been playing the new Battlefield almost daily for over a year, suggesting a strong commitment to quality and player feedback.

This shift back to the series’ roots has generated significant hype among Battlefield fans, who are eager to experience a return to the classic gameplay that defined the franchise. More details are expected to be revealed soon, as the development team prepares for a large-scale community testing phase.
