A recent training session for daycare workers in Wisconsin has sparked controversy, with critics accusing a tax-funded organization of indoctrinating infants and toddlers with radical ideologies.
The Wisconsin Early Childhood Association (WECA), which receives millions in taxpayer funding, hosted the training, which focused on “diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging” and included a $600 “kit” for each participating daycare worker. This kit contained board books teaching infants about race hatred, gender dysphoria, and leftist activism.
The training emphasized the need to “recognize race-related injustices” and “take action to stop them,” encouraging daycare workers to adopt a “social justice approach” in their daily care. The training materials included books promoting the 1619 Project, which has been criticized for historical inaccuracies, and urging the abolition of the police.
The training also advocated for participation in protests like Black Lives Matter and pro-Palestinian demonstrations, citing these as examples of the desired “social justice approach.”
Critics, including legal experts and daycare owners, have raised concerns about the indoctrination of young children with potentially divisive and harmful ideologies. They argue that this type of training violates federal antidiscrimination laws and undermines the principles of color-blindness and individual freedom.
WECA has not responded to requests for comment, nor has the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families clarified whether funding such training aligns with their policies.
The controversy highlights the growing concerns about the influence of political ideology in early childhood education and raises questions about the appropriate role of government funding in promoting specific political agendas.
