Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov, known for his close ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin, has made a bizarre claim: that Elon Musk remotely disabled his Tesla Cybertruck, which was reportedly being used in the ongoing war in Ukraine.
Kadyrov initially boasted about receiving the Cybertruck, claiming it was a gift from Musk and that he had outfitted it with a machine gun for combat. However, Musk denied gifting the vehicle and it remains unclear how Kadyrov obtained it, given sanctions against both Russia and himself.
Now, Kadyrov alleges that the Cybertruck was remotely disabled by Musk, accusing the Tesla CEO of “not being manly” for giving a gift and then disabling it.
While Kadyrov has claimed to have sent two more Cybertrucks to Ukraine, these claims are suspect and should be treated with skepticism.
The Russian propaganda outlet RT has reported that the “remote deactivation has been defeated,” but their claims are not credible.
The possibility of Musk remotely disabling a Cybertruck, especially if he had evidence of illegal acquisition or use, cannot be completely ruled out. However, it is also highly probable that the Cybertruck simply malfunctioned or broke down, leading Kadyrov to invent the remote deactivation story.
Regardless of the reason, the use of Cybertrucks in the war highlights the growing reliance on civilian vehicles for military purposes. It also raises questions about the role of tech companies in international conflicts.
