**ST. PETERSBURG, Russia** – Russian President Vladimir Putin announced on Thursday a significant increase in the country’s drone production, aiming to produce ten times more unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) in 2024 than in 2023.
Putin revealed that Russia delivered approximately 140,000 drones of various types to its armed forces in 2023. The president stated that this number will be multiplied by 10 in the coming year, with mass production taking place across 48 specialized centers by 2030.
The president emphasized that the increased production is a direct result of the experience gained during the ongoing special military operation in Ukraine. He stated that Russian defense industries are working tirelessly to provide the troops with modern weapons, equipment, and ammunition. The combat experience has also led to the enhancement of existing weapon systems and the production of new, highly demanded models.
Putin stressed the need to fully equip the armed forces with the necessary resources, particularly drones. He also highlighted the importance of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies into the defense sector.
The president concluded his remarks by stating that Russia is expanding its unmanned systems line, developing crewless boats and robotic platforms alongside the increased drone production.
