Fri Sep 20 12:06:25 UTC 2024: ## Rory Gallagher Not In Consideration for Derry Football Manager Role, GAA Confirms

**Derry, Ireland – September 2024:** Despite recent statements from his solicitor indicating a desire to return to inter-county management, Rory Gallagher is not being considered for the position of manager of the Derry senior football team, according to a spokesperson for Derry GAA.

Gallagher stepped down from his previous role as Derry manager in May 2023 amidst allegations of domestic abuse made by his estranged wife, Nicola Gallagher. While he denied the allegations and faced no criminal charges, an ongoing safeguarding investigation led to a ban from coaching by the Ulster Council last September.

This ban was subsequently lifted by the Disputes Resolution Authority (DRA) in February 2024 following an arbitration process that found in Gallagher’s favor. His solicitor, Darragh Mackin, has stated that Gallagher “fully intends to return to inter-county management in the near future,” and has since resumed coaching at the club level with Corduff in Monaghan.

However, Derry GAA has explicitly stated that Gallagher is not currently in the running for their managerial position. While Gallagher’s solicitor has emphasized that there are no legal impediments to his return to the GAA, the decision ultimately rests with individual county boards and the potential for public backlash may be a significant factor.
