**Singapore, Singapore** – McLaren driver Oscar Piastri has dismissed concerns about the flexibility of his MCL38’s rear wing, claiming that it’s fully compliant with Formula 1 regulations. The controversy arose after onboard footage from the Azerbaijan Grand Prix showcased noticeable flexing of the rear wing’s upper flap during high-speed sections.
“It’s legal,” Piastri asserted during the Singapore Grand Prix weekend, “It passes all the tests. We get tested a lot, and it passes.” He further emphasized that the wing’s flexibility isn’t a secret, stating that he first noticed it during the Baku race, the same time as everyone else.
The Australian driver, who secured his second F1 victory in Baku, recognized the heightened scrutiny that comes with a competitive car. He pointed out that teams have historically investigated and scrutinized the performance of dominant vehicles, referencing the infamous “50K touch” incident with Mercedes’ rear wing several years ago.
“I think it’s natural,” Piastri said, “You look at any car that’s been competitive and it always gets scrutinized to the highest level.” He also acknowledged the importance of constant learning and improvement, emphasizing that McLaren is always striving to understand and implement the best strategies, just like all other teams.
