Fri Sep 20 12:11:05 UTC 2024: ## Manchester United Taps Foster + Partners for Old Trafford Regeneration Project

**Manchester, UK** – Manchester United has announced the appointment of renowned architectural firm Foster + Partners to develop a masterplan for the area surrounding Old Trafford, marking a significant step forward in their ambitious regeneration project.

The club is considering both a redevelopment of the current stadium, the nation’s largest, or the construction of a new 100,000-capacity stadium on adjacent club-owned land. Co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe is reportedly pushing for a new ground, and the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force appears to favor this option.

Foster + Partners, already overseeing the £50 million modernization of the Carrington Training Complex, will focus on developing a comprehensive “Old Trafford Stadium District” masterplan, encompassing the land surrounding the existing stadium. However, the stadium itself will not be part of this initial stage.

“We want this area to become a true destination, that not only provides an unbeatable matchday experience for our fans, but also supports other forms of entertainment, leisure, business and residential facilities surrounding a world-class stadium,” said Collette Roche, United’s chief operating officer.

Lord Foster, founder and executive chairman of Foster + Partners, expressed his enthusiasm for the project, stating, “As a proud Mancunian, I am passionate about the chance to rebuild on Manchester’s great industrial heritage, creating a vibrant new mixed-use community…”

The project is expected to cost around £2 billion, and the Old Trafford Regeneration Task Force, chaired by Lord Coe, is expected to deliver its final recommendations by the end of the year.

In a bid to involve fans in the process, United is sending out surveys to season ticket holders, members, and executive club members, seeking their views on the current matchday experience, their desired future experience, and their opinions on new build and renovation options.

This project is a testament to Manchester United’s commitment to evolving beyond a traditional football club and creating a vibrant, sustainable, and future-proofed hub for the community. The collaboration with Foster + Partners promises to deliver a world-class stadium and surrounding district that will become a landmark destination in Manchester and beyond.
