Fri Sep 20 13:03:02 UTC 2024: ## German Train Conductors Ordered to Let “Asylum Seekers” Ride Free After Rise in Violence

In response to a surge in aggressive behavior towards train conductors, German authorities in Thuringia have authorized staff to not check tickets of foreign passengers. The move follows reports of increasing threats and violence by asylum seekers towards staff.

According to the Thüringer Allgemeine, conductors have been instructed to prioritize de-escalation, even if it means allowing undocumented passengers to travel for free. This policy comes amidst concerns about the safety of public transportation, particularly for those tasked with enforcing ticketing rules.

This situation echoes concerns in France, where official statistics show that foreign nationals account for 69% of violent crimes on public transportation in the Paris region, with Africans alone representing 52% of these offenses despite making up only 3.2% of the population.

The decision to exempt “asylum seekers” from ticket checks in Germany has sparked controversy, raising concerns about the impact on public safety and the potential for further strain on public resources.
