A letter petition was filed on Friday with the Supreme Court of India, seeking its intervention in the ongoing controversy surrounding allegations that non-vegetarian products were used in the preparation of laddus at the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanam (TTD) Trust.
The petition, filed on behalf of Suresh Chavhanke, Editor-in-chief of Sudarshan News, argues that the issue holds “profound national and religious importance” as it affects the sentiments of Hindu devotees worldwide. Advocate Satayam Singh, representing Chavhanke, stated that the alleged act violates Hindu religious customs, infringes on the right to freedom of religion, and deeply hurts the feelings of devotees who consider the use of vegetarian ingredients in prasadam to be essential to their faith.
The petition goes on to state that this incident is not an isolated case, but rather a symptom of a larger problem concerning the management of sacred institutions. It calls for devoted and culturally sensitive management of temples to ensure such incidents do not occur again.
