**Chennai:** Indian pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah achieved a significant milestone in the first Test against Bangladesh in Chennai, claiming his 400th international wicket and becoming the 10th bowler from India to achieve this feat.
Bumrah reached this milestone during Bangladesh’s first innings, taking 4 wickets for 50 runs in 11 overs. He dismissed Shadman Islam, Mushfiqur Rahim, Hasan Mahmud, and Taskin Ahmed. With this achievement, he is now the sixth Indian pacer to cross the 400-wicket mark.
In 196 international matches, Bumrah has taken 401 wickets at an impressive average of 21.01, with a best bowling figure of 6/19. His impressive performances across all three formats, including 163 wickets in Tests, 149 in ODIs, and 89 in T20Is, have cemented his position as one of the world’s leading fast bowlers.
The match itself saw Bangladesh winning the toss and electing to field first. However, India, after a shaky start with the top order collapsing at 34/3, recovered well thanks to a 62-run partnership between Yashasvi Jaiswal (56) and Rishabh Pant (39).
A crucial 199-run partnership between Ravichandran Ashwin (113) and Ravindra Jadeja (86*) propelled India to a respectable total of 376 in 91.2 overs. Hasan Mahmud (5/83) led the Bangladesh bowling attack, dismantling the Indian top order by dismissing skipper Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli.
In their first innings, Bangladesh faced similar struggles. Despite brief fightbacks from Shakib Al Hasan (32), Litton Das (22), and Mehidy Hasan Miraz (27*), Bumrah’s crucial 4-wicket haul and Akash Deep’s 2/19 put Bangladesh on the backfoot. Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja also contributed with two wickets each.
