**Chennai, India** – Cambridge University Press & Assessment (CUPA), a part of the University of Cambridge, has significantly contributed to enhancing English language skills among Tamil Nadu youth through the state government’s “Naan Mudhalvan” project, aimed at improving employability and skills.

CUPA has certified over 3,50,000 learners in the first year of the program, and this year has reached 2,50,000 students across over 1,500 government institutes. Peter Phillips, Chief Executive at CUPA, highlighted the program’s focus on equipping learners with essential English skills, crucial for success in today’s job market.

“The Naan Mudhalvan project serves as a vital context for our collaboration, as it aims to create a skilled workforce capable of meeting the challenges of a rapidly growing economy,” said Phillips.

Beyond English, CUPA also offers Tamil as a language option, making Tamil Nadu the only state with this unique feature. Students with Cambridge Class X Tamil qualification are exempted from the government’s Tamil exam, showcasing the State’s recognition of Cambridge’s curriculum.

The program extends its reach by training 10,000 teachers selected through the Tamil Nadu State Development Corporation (TNSDC). These educators undergo rigorous training, assessment, and certification to ensure high-quality instruction and mentorship for students.

“By empowering teachers, we create a ripple effect that enhances the learning experience for students,” said Phillips.

Furthermore, students undergo a mandatory learning assessment in their first year, receiving certifications with academic credits recognized by institutions like Anna University.

Phillips also highlighted the Cambridge Climate Quest, a collaborative initiative with Cambridge Zero, aimed at fostering climate awareness, literacy, and action among young learners. Inspired by the National Curriculum Framework for School Education, the program integrates climate education across various subjects.

India holds a significant position for CUPA, ranking among the top five markets globally alongside the US, China, the UK, and Spain. India contributes nearly 10% to CUPA’s revenue of £1 billion, with expectations of significant growth in the coming years.

With over 750 schools nationwide and a strong presence in major cities, Cambridge plays a crucial role in building a quality international education ecosystem in India.
