**Jenin, West Bank** – The Israeli military is facing international condemnation and a formal investigation after videos emerged showing soldiers throwing the bodies of Palestinians from a rooftop during a raid in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin on Thursday. The incident, which occurred during a wider Israeli incursion that left seven Palestinians dead, was captured on video by residents and witnessed by an Associated Press reporter.
The videos, which have been widely circulated online, show Israeli soldiers pushing and kicking three bodies over the edge of a building. One body becomes entangled in cables and dangles headfirst before a soldier dislodges it.
The Israeli military has acknowledged the incident, calling it a “serious incident that does not coincide with IDF values and the expectations from IDF soldiers.” They have launched an investigation into the matter.
United Nations spokesperson Stephane Dujarric described the actions in the video as “grotesque and inhumane,” highlighting that international law requires militaries to treat the bodies of enemy soldiers with respect, prevent mutilation, and return them to families.
The IDF maintains that it conducted a “counterterrorism” operation in Jenin, killing four militants during exchanges of fire. They also claim to have killed “the head of the terrorist organization in Qabatiya and six other terrorists,” although they did not identify the group.
Palestinian officials, however, have condemned the incident as a “barbaric act” and a sign of the “brutality” of the Israeli occupation.
The raid in Jenin was part of a wider escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank, where more than 700 people have been killed since October 7, including over 150 children.
The incident has drawn international condemnation and renewed calls for an investigation into the Israeli military’s actions.
