**Cupertino, CA -** Apple has released a new software update for its HomePod smart speakers, bringing the much-anticipated SharePlay feature to the device. Version 18 of HomePod Software allows users to share control of their Apple Music playlists with guests, enabling everyone to contribute to the music playing on the speaker.
The update, which aligns with the release of tvOS 18, is available for all HomePod models, including the original HomePod, HomePod 2, and HomePod mini. It also includes bug fixes and stability improvements, according to Apple’s release notes.
While automatic updates are enabled by default, users may need to manually initiate the update process. To ensure their HomePod is running the latest software, users can check the Home app for an “Update Available” message. If an update is available, users can simply press the “Update All” button to begin the installation process.
For those who prefer to manually update their HomePod, a simple reboot by unplugging and plugging the device back in may trigger the update.
While the update brings a new feature to HomePod, users also have the option to disable automatic updates. However, this means they will need to manually request updates in the future, potentially missing out on new features and improvements.
The update comes as Apple continues to enhance the functionality of its smart speakers, offering users a seamless and engaging audio experience. With the addition of SharePlay, the HomePod is now even more equipped to be the centerpiece of any social gathering.
