Fri Sep 20 13:44:28 UTC 2024: ## Rookie QB Drake Maye Shows Respect for Aaron Rodgers After Patriots Loss
**East Rutherford, NJ** – Despite a 24-3 loss to the New York Jets, rookie quarterback Drake Maye of the New England Patriots showed respect for the opposing team’s star quarterback, Aaron Rodgers, following the game.
After Rodgers finished his postgame interview with Amazon Prime, Maye approached the veteran QB, patiently waiting his turn to shake his hand and express his admiration. “I’m waiting for the GOAT,” Maye told NFL Network reporter Mike Garafolo, referring to Rodgers as the “Greatest Of All Time.”
While some Patriots fans may take issue with Maye’s choice of words considering their allegiance to Tom Brady, the rookie clarified that his respect for Rodgers stemmed from his childhood admiration for the Jets quarterback.
“He was my favorite player growing up,” Maye told the Boston Herald. “I had a phone case with Aaron Rodgers on it for like five years of my life.”
Maye explained that he was late getting back to the field but wanted to personally let Rodgers know he was a fan. “Enjoyed watching him tonight even though it was against us. Still, always a fan at heart, first,” he added.
Rodgers, in turn, briefly spoke to Maye, wishing him luck and advising him to stay healthy. “He said best of luck, stay healthy and just hang in there,” Maye recounted.
Though Maye made his NFL debut in the fourth quarter of the game, he remains in an observational role as veteran Jacoby Brissett is likely to start in Week 4 against the San Francisco 49ers.
