**Nashville, TN** – Acclaimed musician, composer, and producer Jerry Douglas, a 16-time Grammy winner and renowned dobro player, has released his first solo album in seven years, titled “The Set.” The album features a blend of five new songs and six revitalized versions of fan favorites, showcasing Douglas’s virtuosity and musical evolution.
“I love this record because it’s a culmination of a whole lot of things for me,” Douglas shared. “People often ask me where they can find certain songs we play in concert, so I decided to call it ‘The Set’.”
The album features a diverse selection of tracks, including a newly recorded version of the Beatles classic “While My Guitar Gently Weeps” and Douglas’s concerto “The Fifth Season.” The concerto, commissioned by the FreshGrass Foundation, was initially shelved but found its way onto “The Set” as a testament to Douglas’s dedication to his craft.
Each member of Douglas’s band contributed a song to the album, adding to the collaborative spirit of “The Set.” The Jerry Douglas Band, composed of Christian Sedelmyer, Daniel Kimbro, Jerry Douglas, and Mike Seal, showcases their individual talents throughout the record.
“I just love this band, and everybody gets to shine,” Douglas said. “This is by no means my swan song, but it’s something I needed to do. I wanted to make a collection of things I really like, and that people are always asking about. Hearing those songs with this band is the best way to hear it.”
The release of “The Set” coincides with Douglas’s induction into the Bluegrass Hall of Fame, a testament to his enduring influence on the genre. Fellow musician Sam Bush, a renowned mandolin player, will induct Douglas, highlighting his significant impact on the dobro.
“I don’t think there is any one person on an instrument who has redefined it so much in the last 40 years, the way he has redefined dobro,” Bush stated. “Almost every young dobro player that comes along is trying to play like Jerry. He’s set the bar so high, everyone wants to aspire to that. There is no one more deserving to be in the Bluegrass Hall of Fame.”
“The Set” is available now, marking a significant milestone in Douglas’s illustrious career. With this new album and his upcoming Hall of Fame induction, Douglas continues to celebrate his musical legacy while simultaneously pushing creative boundaries.
