**PARIS, FRANCE** – ARP Sélection, a leading French film distributor, has secured distribution rights for the Czech historical thriller “Waves,” directed by Jiří Mádl. The film, which was selected as the Czech Republic’s entry for the Best International Feature Film category at the upcoming Oscars, tells the story of a radio station employee caught between the secret services and his revolutionary brother during the Prague Spring of 1968.

Michèle Halberstadt, co-head of ARP Sélection, praised the film’s ability to connect history to contemporary audiences, stating, “Having been a radio producer for many years, I was personally very touched by the film and how radio always plays an important part in historical upheavals.”

“Waves” has already proven successful in its home country, grossing over €4 million in the Czech Republic and €1 million in Slovakia, making it the top-performing Czech film since the pandemic. The film also won the Audience Award at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.

Frédéric Corvez, CEO of Urban Sales, which secured the deal for ARP Sélection, highlighted the film’s universal appeal and its relevance to current events, stating, “This movie comes with many arguments to convince all audiences to come see it. Furthermore, the Prague Spring resonates particularly today with the threat posed by Russia to Europe.”

“Waves,” produced by Monika Kristl of Dawson Films, is set to release in France under ARP Sélection, potentially reaching a wider audience and further cementing its place as a powerful and timely cinematic experience.
