**Buffalo, NY -** Ahead of their Monday night game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Buffalo Bills fans have a unique opportunity to invest in the team’s new stadium. Erie County, where Buffalo is located, is offering a special one-day window for retail investors to purchase municipal bonds that will help fund the $250 million the county is contributing to the new stadium.
Erie County Comptroller Kevin Hardwick, who spearheaded the initiative, emphasized the significance of this opportunity for dedicated Bills fans: “I wanted to make sure the average fan who has supported the team through thick and thin gets a chance to be a part of building the new home.”
Investors must place orders through a broker and invest a minimum of $5,000 in the double A-rated bonds. The interest rate will be determined after the offering period ends. The county is currently considering a 25-year maturation date for the bonds.
While this isn’t the first time a local community has been involved in stadium financing, the direct involvement of fans through bond offerings adds a novel dimension. The new stadium is expected to open in 2026 and is projected to generate significant revenue for the Bills through sponsorships and increased fan engagement.
The new stadium project, costing a total of $1.4 billion, is being funded through a combination of public and private sources. The state of New York and Erie County have contributed $850 million, while the Buffalo Bills will cover the remaining costs.
