Fri Sep 20 10:03:26 UTC 2024: ## BBC Creates New Wellbeing Team to Prioritize Staff Mental Health

**London, UK** – The BBC has announced the creation of a new dedicated wellbeing team to address growing concerns about staff mental health. Led by Dr. Hayley Dare, a chartered consultant clinical psychologist and expert on workplace wellbeing, the team will provide support and resources to employees across both the public service and commercial arms of the BBC.

Dr. Dare, previously a specialist advisor to the Parliamentary inquiry into reality TV, brings extensive experience in mental health issues within the media industry. Joining her is Lucy Tallon, former Head of Mental Health and Wellbeing at The Film & TV Charity, who brings a wealth of knowledge from working with various organizations.

The new team is intended to complement existing staff welfare initiatives, placing a stronger focus on proactive mental health support. “We’re dedicated to creating an environment where employees can thrive and do their best work,” a BBC spokeswoman said. “These roles will support our ongoing commitment to their mental health and wellbeing.”

This initiative comes amidst a period of intense scrutiny within the TV industry regarding working practices and mental health. Recent high-profile suicides of industry professionals have sparked conversations about the pressure and stress faced by those working in television. The BBC itself has been dealing with its own challenges, including allegations of misconduct and the ongoing impact of the Israel-Hamas war.

While the BBC emphasizes the team’s creation is part of long-term planning and not a reaction to specific incidents, the move signals a significant commitment to fostering a healthier and more supportive work environment for its staff.
