Sat Sep 21 15:30:43 UTC 2024: ## Atishi Sworn In as Delhi’s Third Woman Chief Minister
**New Delhi, September 21, 2024:** Atishi took oath as the eighth Chief Minister of Delhi on Saturday, becoming the youngest woman to hold the position. The ceremony took place at Raj Niwas, with Lieutenant-General V.K. Saxena administering the oath.
Atishi, a prominent AAP leader, was appointed by President Droupadi Murmu after Arvind Kejriwal resigned on September 17. She was elected as the leader of the AAP Legislature Party and nominated for the top job.
Five Cabinet Ministers were also sworn in: Gopal Rai, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Kailash Gahlot, Imran Hussain, and first-time MLA Mukesh Ahlawat.
BJP MP Manoj Tiwari extended his congratulations to Atishi and expressed support, mentioning some concerns he has communicated in a letter.
Though her tenure will be brief, with Delhi Assembly Elections scheduled for February 2025, Atishi is the second woman Chief Minister in India currently, alongside Mamata Banerjee of West Bengal.
The newly appointed ministers expressed their commitment to continue the work started under Kejriwal’s leadership and address key issues like pollution.
While Kejriwal stepped down from the CM post, he remains the National Convenor of AAP and will continue to guide the party.
