**New Delhi:** Atishi, a prominent Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader, was sworn in as Delhi’s new Chief Minister at Raj Niwas on Saturday, becoming the third woman to hold the post in the national capital. The ceremony, however, was a low-key affair, reflecting the subdued mood within the party following the resignation of Arvind Kejriwal, who stepped down as CM after being released on bail in the excise policy case.
Atishi, a first-time legislator, will have a brief tenure in office as assembly elections are scheduled for February. During Kejriwal’s absence, she was a key figure within the party and is expected to be a strong contender in the upcoming polls.
Five other AAP leaders – Gopal Rai, Kailash Gahlot, Saurabh Bharadwaj, Imran Hussain and Mukesh Ahlawat – were also sworn in as ministers in the new cabinet.
Despite the low-key ceremony, Atishi expressed her gratitude to Kejriwal for his trust and pledged to serve the people of Delhi. She emphasized that she will work under Kejriwal’s guidance, highlighting his continued role as the party’s national convenor.
The swearing-in has been met with mixed reactions. While the BJP expressed skepticism, terming it a “dummy government,” the AAP has stated that the new leadership will continue the party’s work and strive to secure Kejriwal’s return as CM in the upcoming elections.
The new cabinet will focus on several key priorities, including completing ongoing infrastructure projects, addressing pollution concerns, and ensuring the efficient delivery of public services.
Atishi’s short tenure as Chief Minister will be crucial in ensuring the AAP’s continued popularity in Delhi and potentially leading them to victory in the upcoming state elections.
