**SEATTLE, WA -** Amazon has announced a new generative AI tool, Project Amelia, designed to support independent sellers on its platform. This AI assistant, built using Amazon Bedrock, is a selling expert capable of providing answers and tools to help sellers succeed.
Amelia, which launched in beta on September 19th, leverages Amazon’s vast knowledge base and draws from various AI models, including those from AI21 Labs, Cohere, Meta, Stability AI, and Amazon itself. Sellers can interact with Amelia using natural language, asking questions like “How is my business doing?” to receive summarized information from reliable sources on Seller Central and gain insights into their sales data and customer traffic.
Beyond answering queries, Amelia will soon be able to offer straightforward resolutions to complex situations. While experts like Forrester Research analyst Rowan Curran emphasize the need for strong knowledge bases alongside powerful AI models, Amazon’s approach combines both elements. By integrating Amazon’s knowledge base with the capabilities of models on Amazon Bedrock, Project Amelia aims to deliver valuable, differentiated insights and a user-friendly experience.
Analyst Liz Miller from Constellation Research sees Amelia as a potential productivity and optimization booster for sellers, particularly through early alerts on planning, inventory, and pricing. However, she acknowledges that Amazon might face challenges in driving adoption, as it remains unclear how many sellers will embrace the new tool. If successful, Amelia could significantly benefit both sellers and Amazon, enabling them to sell more effectively and efficiently.
Beyond Project Amelia, Amazon is also incorporating generative AI into other areas of its platform. Later this year, sellers will be able to use generative AI to create multiple listings, and a new Video Generator tool will empower sellers to create video ads at no extra cost.
This move towards generative AI reflects Amazon’s commitment to utilizing the technology to enhance its offerings and provide valuable tools for its sellers. While the success of Project Amelia and other AI initiatives remains to be seen, Amazon’s efforts demonstrate the growing influence of generative AI across various industries, particularly in e-commerce.
