Liverpool manager Arne Slot has confirmed that goalkeeper Alisson Becker is a doubt for Saturday’s Premier League clash with Bournemouth due to a muscle injury.
The Brazilian international sustained the injury prior to Tuesday’s 3-1 Champions League victory over AC Milan and aggravated it during the game.
Slot stated, “Alisson is still a doubt if he can train today, so let’s wait (to see) if he can train. If he can’t, he probably won’t play as well. He has a slight issue with one of his muscles, and we wonder if this game is coming too early or not.”
The manager added, “Now we have to wait and see if he’s ready to be in goal (on Saturday) or we have to wait a few extra days.”
Should Alisson fail to recover, Republic of Ireland international Caoimhín Kelleher, who started the majority of pre-season games, is expected to deputize.
Alisson has been in fine form this season, conceding just two goals in five appearances across all competitions. Liverpool, under new manager Slot, have enjoyed a strong start to the campaign, sitting fourth in the table after four games, just three points behind leaders Manchester City.
The Reds dominated their Champions League return at the San Siro on Tuesday, securing a convincing victory over AC Milan.
Apart from Alisson, Harvey Elliott is the only other player expected to miss the match at Anfield.
Bournemouth, who have a poor record against Liverpool, having lost 11 of their last 14 Premier League encounters, arrive at Anfield in 11th place with five points.
