Fri Sep 20 11:46:22 UTC 2024: ## Football Legends Back Harris-Walz Ticket on National Black Voter Day

**Washington, D.C.** – A coalition of over 50 former NFL players and coaches, including prominent figures like Art Shell and Richard Dent, have publicly endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris and Governor Tim Walz for the 2024 presidency. This high-profile endorsement comes on National Black Voter Day, an initiative focused on voter registration among Black Americans.

The group, representing 25 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs), cited Vice President Harris’s “integrity, values and demonstrated commitment to justice and equality of opportunity” as key factors in their decision. They believe she will “serve the best interests of all Americans.”

This announcement follows a recent poll by the NAACP, which found that nearly a quarter of young African American men under 50 support former President Donald Trump, while about half support Harris.

“I think it’s very important to not operate from the assumption that Black men are in anybody’s pocket,” said Harris during a recent appearance at the National Association of Black Journalists conference. “I’m working to earn the vote, not assuming I’m going to have it because I am Black.”

Harris, a Howard University alumna, has consistently highlighted her HBCU ties, emphasizing the Biden-Harris administration’s record investments in these institutions.

The Harris campaign has also touted her commitment to supporting athletes and sports, particularly HBCUs. In December, she attended the Celebration Bowl featuring Howard and Florida A&M University, and she cheered on Howard in the NCAA tournament last year.

This endorsement from a group of influential figures in the Black community adds another layer to the already heated 2024 presidential race, with both candidates actively seeking the support of diverse voter demographics.
