Sat Sep 21 12:01:38 UTC 2024: ## Pant and Gill Power India to Domination, Bangladesh Face Uphill Battle

**Chennai, India:** Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill scored centuries in a dominant display by India on the third day of the first Test against Bangladesh, leaving the visitors with a daunting target of 515 runs to chase.

Pant’s knock, his first Test century since July 2022, was an emotional return to form after a serious car crash last December. The wicketkeeper-batsman celebrated reaching triple figures with a heartfelt prayer, a testament to his resilience and the significance of the milestone. He eventually fell for 109, equalling MS Dhoni’s record for the most Test hundreds by an Indian wicketkeeper-batsman.

Gill, who has been working to regain his confidence in the longer format, also showcased his class with a masterful 119 not out. His fifth Test century, a testament to his mental fortitude, underscored his growing stature in red-ball cricket.

The duo combined for a crucial 167-run partnership for the fourth wicket, helping India declare their innings at 287/4, setting up a commanding lead.

Despite a late rally that saw them reach 56/0 at tea, Bangladesh still face an impossible task.

“It’s a difficult target,” said Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan. “We have to bat really well for the next two days to even think about winning the game.”

The third day was a day of personal triumphs for Pant and Gill, their centuries a testament to their determination and skill. However, the real test awaits on Sunday as Bangladesh try to pull off an improbable chase and salvage some pride from this lopsided encounter.
