Thu Sep 19 07:01:00 UTC 2024: ## WNBA Viewership Soars on ION, Doubling 2023 Numbers
**CINCINNATI, Sept. 19, 2024** – The WNBA’s presence on ION has experienced a dramatic surge in viewership during the 2024 season, more than doubling its numbers from the previous year. The State Farm WNBA Friday Night Spotlight on ION attracted a total of 23.37 million unique viewers, with an average viewership increase of 133% compared to 2023.
The network’s male audience, specifically those aged 25-54, saw an even greater increase, rising by a remarkable 181%. This growth highlights ION’s success in reaching a broader demographic and expanding the WNBA’s fan base.
The success comes in the second year of a multi-year agreement between The E.W. Scripps Company and the WNBA, where ION broadcasts weekly double-headers during the regular season. This year, ION added a dedicated studio show to its programming, further enhancing its coverage.
“This season was a big step forward for the WNBA and its players in terms of exposure both in arenas and on television,” said Brian Lawlor, Scripps Sports president. “It was so fun to watch the momentum build throughout the season. Scripps is thrilled to have played a part in that.”
The partnership has not only boosted viewership but also contributed to the league’s overall success. “We are incredibly pleased with the success of our partnership with Scripps Sports, which has played a pivotal role in amplifying the reach and visibility of the WNBA season,” said WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert. “Through this partnership, we’ve been able to showcase great basketball with a broader audience, deepening the connection between the league, the players and our growing fanbase while delivering record-breaking viewership numbers.”
ION’s success with the WNBA marks a significant development for women’s sports, demonstrating the growing popularity of the league and the potential for further expansion.
