**Chennai:** A heated exchange between Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant and Bangladesh wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das marred the first day of the first Test in Chennai. The incident occurred in the 15th over of India’s innings, with Taskin Ahmed bowling to Yashasvi Jaiswal.
A good length delivery was defended by Jaiswal towards gully, and Pant attempted a quick single. However, Jaiswal sent him back, causing the ball to deflect off Pant’s pads and roll towards mid-on. Despite this, the batsmen managed to switch ends and add a run to India’s score.
This was met with disapproval from Litton Das, who felt the run was unfair as the ball had deflected off Pant. An animated exchange followed between the two, with Pant seemingly unimpressed by Litton’s protests. The argument was eventually settled, with Litton returning to his wicketkeeping duties.
Despite the altercation, India enjoyed a strong start to the match, reaching 88 for three at lunch. Opener Yashasvi Jaiswal was unbeaten on 37, alongside Rishabh Pant, who was on 33. Pacer Hasan Mahmud was the pick of the Bangladesh bowlers, claiming the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli in the opening session.
The match, played on a lively Chepauk pitch, promises to be an exciting contest between the two teams.
