**Osaka, Japan** – Icom Inc., the Japanese manufacturer of walkie-talkies, has denied involvement in the recent explosions in Lebanon that killed at least 26 people and injured thousands. The company confirmed that it ceased production of the IC-V82 model, allegedly used in the attacks, in 2014.
Icom has also stated that the devices pictured in news reports appear to be counterfeit, lacking the hologram labels that authenticate their products. The company emphasizes that all its radios are manufactured in Japan under strict safety regulations and that it does not outsource production.
While the explosions raise concerns about a new form of terrorism, experts point towards the possibility of the walkie-talkies being modified after their original sale.
“This may increase pressure on companies to expand risk oversight of their supply chains,” stated Mitsuru Fukuda, professor of risk management at Nihon University. “It is crucial to have a comprehensive approach that includes distribution and delivery.”
The Japanese government is currently gathering information about the situation. The incident has sparked global attention and highlighted the vulnerabilities of supply chains to potential misuse.
