Thu Sep 19 08:26:42 UTC 2024: ## Trump and Harris Both Eye Meetings with Ukrainian President Zelensky

**New York, NY** – Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump has indicated that he may meet with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the latter’s visit to the US for the United Nations General Assembly next week.

Trump, when asked by reporters, responded “probably, yes” to the question of whether he would have a face-to-face meeting with Zelensky. Meanwhile, multiple US news outlets, including CNN and Bloomberg, reported that Vice President Kamala Harris is also expected to meet with the Ukrainian leader during his visit.

While neither candidate has confirmed the meetings, John Kirby, spokesperson for the National Security Council, acknowledged that “if the opportunity presents itself, and both of them can have another conversation, they will.”

Zelensky is scheduled to address the UN Security Council on September 24th, coinciding with the annual UN General Assembly session. His meeting with Trump would follow their previous conversation in June, where Trump pledged to bring an end to the conflict in Ukraine. Harris also met with Zelensky in June at a “peace summit” in Lucerne, Switzerland.

While Harris has been a vocal supporter of Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, Trump has been more ambiguous, stating only that he wants hostilities to end while dodging a question about whether he wants Ukraine to win. He has repeatedly promised to negotiate an end to the conflict within 24 hours if elected.

Trump’s running mate, J.D. Vance, has suggested a potential peace deal that would involve barring Ukraine from joining NATO and establishing a demilitarized zone on the current frontline.

Zelensky has expressed openness to listening to Trump’s proposals for peace but has also suggested that some of Trump’s pronouncements may be “election messages” that are “not very real.”
