Fri Sep 20 10:53:03 UTC 2024: ## Religious Controversy Erupts Over Tirupati Laddus, Calls for National Temple Protection Board

A political storm has erupted in Andhra Pradesh over the alleged use of animal fat in the preparation of Tirupati laddu, a sacred offering at the Tirumala temple. The controversy has ignited calls for a national-level board to protect religious institutions.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, presented a lab report claiming the presence of beef tallow, pig fat, and fish oil in the ghee used for the laddus. The report, from Gujarat-based NDDB CALF Ltd, intensified the debate over the sanctity of the offering.

Jana Sena Party chief and Andhra Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan expressed deep concern over the findings and urged the Telugu Desam Party government to take stringent action. He further proposed the formation of a “Sanatana Dharma Rakshana Board” at a national level to address issues related to temples across India.

Kalyan stressed the need for a national-level dialogue involving policymakers, religious leaders, the judiciary, citizens, and media to address the desecration of religious institutions and associated issues. He advocated for a united effort to protect “Sanatana Dharma” from such acts.

The row has stirred religious sensitivities and heightened concerns about the integrity of temple practices. It remains to be seen how the Andhra Pradesh government will address the allegations and whether the call for a national temple protection board will gain traction.
