Fri Sep 20 12:33:28 UTC 2024: ## Controversy Erupts Over Tirupati Laddu Ingredients in Andhra Pradesh

**Tirupati, Andhra Pradesh:** A political storm has brewed in Andhra Pradesh over allegations that the ingredients used in the preparation of the famed Tirupati laddu, a sacred offering at the Tirumala Venkateswara Temple, include beef tallow, lard, and other substandard materials.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP), led by former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, has accused the previous YSRCP government of using these ingredients, citing a lab report from a Gujarat-based livestock laboratory.

The TDP claims that the report, dated July 16, 2024, shows the presence of “beef tallow,” “lard,” and “fish oil” in samples of the laddus, indicating the use of “foreign fat.”

The party’s spokesperson, Anam Venkata Ramana Reddy, presented the lab report at a press conference, further bolstering their claims.

Beef tallow, extracted from bovine fatty tissue, and lard, obtained from hog fat, are commonly used in cooking and other applications.

The YSRCP, however, has vehemently denied these allegations.

The controversy has raised concerns about the health and religious implications of using such ingredients in the laddus, which are considered a sacred offering and a globally renowned prasad.

The Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD), which manages the temple, has yet to comment on the allegations. The Andhra Pradesh government has also not issued an official statement.

This controversy has further fueled political tensions in the state, adding another chapter to the ongoing feud between the TDP and YSRCP.
