**Tokyo, Japan** – While Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) is on track to open its first Japanese plant in Kumamoto Prefecture by year’s end, plans for a third foundry in the country remain unconfirmed.
This was announced by Taiwan’s Minister of National Development Liu Chin-ching during a visit to Tokyo on Tuesday. “As far as I know, it hasn’t been decided yet,” Minister Liu stated, addressing speculation about a third TSMC facility.
TSMC, the world’s second-largest chipmaker, already operates a facility in Kikuyo, Kumamoto Prefecture, which is expected to commence full operations by the end of the year.
The news comes amidst growing global demand for semiconductors, with Japan actively seeking to strengthen its domestic chip manufacturing capabilities.
