**LONDON – September 19, 2024** – A new IDC InfoBrief commissioned by Expereo reveals that while AI presents exciting opportunities for innovation and growth, it also creates significant pressure and anxiety for technology leaders.

The report, titled *Enterprise Horizons 2024: Technology Leaders’ Priorities on Their Digital Business Journey*, found that 64% of global respondents struggle to meet the growing technology demands of their businesses, with AI being a major contributor to this stress.

While 60% of respondents acknowledge that their focus on AI has boosted their personal reputation, a significant portion (47%) feel their boards have unrealistic expectations about AI’s impact on business performance. This pressure, combined with the perception that AI could replace their roles, has led to increased job stress for 39% of technology leaders.

The survey also highlights the potential impact of AI on the workforce, both within and outside IT. While the emergence of a Chief AI Officer (CAIO) role could bring new opportunities, 40% of respondents believe the CAIO will absorb many of the CIO’s responsibilities within the next two years. This, coupled with concerns about AI replacing existing roles, has led to a widespread fear of automation and job displacement.

Despite these anxieties, technology leaders remain optimistic about the future. 68% of respondents consider this to be an exciting time for their field, and 71% are confident that their current technology strategies can support growth and efficiency gains.

However, the report also emphasizes that technology leaders’ roles will become even more demanding in the coming years, as they are expected to drive digital transformation and revenue generation. This will require closer alignment with CEOs and increased communication with stakeholders to ensure necessary support for these ambitious goals.
