**Cremona, Italy** – Championship leader Toprak Razgatlioglu and Yamaha star Jonathan Rea will both miss the ninth round of the 2024 WorldSBK Championship in Cremona this weekend due to ongoing injuries.
Razgatlioglu, who sustained a mild pneumothorax in a crash during the Magny-Cours round, requires more time for recovery. The Turkish rider, who was leading the championship by a comfortable margin before the accident, expressed his disappointment but stated his goal is to return for the next round at Motorland Aragón.
Meanwhile, Jonathan Rea, who underwent emergency surgery after a crash in Magny-Cours, will also be absent in Cremona. Medical advice from his surgeon in France and local medical team in Northern Ireland suggests that the six-time champion needs more time for his right thumb to heal completely.
The absence of both riders provides an opportunity for other contenders to close the gap in the championship standings. Nicolo Bulega, who was trailing Razgatlioglu by 93 points before the Magny-Cours incident, now has a chance to further improve his position.
In Razgatlioglu’s absence, Markus Reiterberger will replace him at ROKiT BMW Motorrad WorldSBK Team. Yamaha’s official test rider, Niccolò Canepa, will take over Rea’s seat at Pata Prometeon Yamaha R1 WorldSBK.
Both Razgatlioglu and Rea are expected to return to the championship at the Aragon round next week.
