**LONDON** – Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has faced mounting criticism over his acceptance of thousands of pounds worth of gifts and hospitality, including free football tickets and Taylor Swift concert tickets.

According to Sky News’ Westminster Accounts project, Starmer has received £107,145 in gifts and hospitality since December 2019, more than twice the amount of any other MP. The project revealed that Starmer received £12,588 worth of gifts from the Premier League, including four Taylor Swift tickets during the election campaign, two Euros finals tickets, and numerous Arsenal football match tickets.

Starmer has defended his acceptance of the tickets, arguing that he has been a season ticket holder at Arsenal for years and that security concerns prevent him from attending matches in the stands. He claims that attending from the stands would cost the taxpayer significantly due to additional security measures.

However, critics have argued that Starmer’s acceptance of such lavish gifts creates a conflict of interest, particularly as the government plans to overhaul the sport’s regulator.

Baroness Harriet Harman, a former Labour MP, urged Starmer to stop justifying his acceptance of free gifts, arguing that it only worsens the situation.

“You can either double down on it and try and justify it or you can just say it was probably a misstep, if I had my time again I wouldn’t do it and therefore I’m going to auction for charity or something,” she said.

Meanwhile, Richard Tice, deputy leader of Reform UK, accused Starmer of cronyism. “We’ve got a situation where confidence in the recently elected prime minister is collapsing because he stood on one platform, and it turns out he’s the biggest crony of all,” he said.

The revelations come at a time when Starmer is already facing criticism for his handling of various issues, including his top adviser’s high salary and the recent government reshuffle.

While Starmer has attempted to maintain his position on the freebies, the situation has undoubtedly damaged his reputation and raised concerns about his commitment to ethical leadership.
