
Thu Sep 19 06:15:09 UTC 2024: ## Prime Minister Oli Heads to New York for UNGA, Addresses Global Issues
Kathmandu, September 19, 2024 – Prime Minister KP Oli will depart for New York tomorrow to lead Nepal’s delegation to the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA). His visit will see him address key global issues, including sustainable development and human dignity.
The Prime Minister will deliver his address to the UNGA on September 26, focusing on the theme “Leaving No One Behind: Acting together for the advancement of peace, sustainable development and human dignity for present and future generations.” Prior to that, he will attend the opening session on September 24 and a reception hosted by US President Joe Biden on September 25.
In addition to his UNGA address, PM Oli will participate in several high-level meetings. He will address the Summit of the Future as the Chair of the Global Coordination Bureau of Least Developed Countries (LDCs), highlighting their unique challenges and opportunities. He will also attend a high-level meeting on addressing threats posed by sea-level rise and another on antimicrobial resistance (AMR).
Furthering his focus on global issues, PM Oli will deliver a keynote address at Columbia University on September 23, focusing on Nepal’s journey toward democracy and economic prosperity. The following day, he will speak at Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum, discussing Nepal’s perspectives on transitional justice and climate justice.
Throughout his visit, PM Oli will also meet with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres and engage in bilateral meetings with other world leaders on the sidelines of the UNGA. He will be accompanied by his spouse, Radhika Shakya, Foreign Minister Arzu Rana Deuba, Foreign Secretary Sewa Lamsal, and other government officials. The Prime Minister is scheduled to return to Kathmandu on September 30.
