**New Delhi:** Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to unveil his vision for the future of the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (QUAD) during the upcoming summit in Wilmington, Delaware on September 21st.
Focus will be on bolstering the group’s efforts to secure critical infrastructure, protect maritime domains, and combat cyber threats. The summit comes amid rising tensions in the Indo-Pacific region, fueled by Chinese aggression against the Philippines and Iranian-backed Houthi missile attacks on international shipping.
The QUAD, consisting of India, the US, Japan, and Australia, has already taken steps to enhance maritime domain awareness, including the adoption of HawkEye 360 software for tracking “dark shipping” vessels that deliberately disable their transponders.
With India strategically positioned at the heart of the Indo-Pacific, the summit is expected to further strengthen the group’s commitment to safeguarding the region’s security and prosperity.
PM Modi will also hold bilateral meetings with US President Joe Biden, Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese during his trip to the US.
While the QUAD’s focus on the Indo-Pacific has gained prominence in light of recent geopolitical developments, the group maintains its commitment to global stability. India, in particular, has emerged as a key player in disaster relief efforts in the region, having provided assistance during the 2006 Tsunami and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Despite China’s perception of the QUAD as a countermeasure to its rise, the group emphasizes that its goals extend beyond regional rivalry, aiming to promote global security and cooperation.
