**New Delhi, September 19, 2024:** India has confirmed it will host the next Quad Summit in 2025, after agreeing to swap host years with the US. The US had requested to host this year’s summit due to scheduling conflicts among the leaders.
The news was announced by Mira Rapp-Hooper, Senior Director for East Asia and Oceania at the US National Security Council. She confirmed that the US sees India as a “leader within the Quad” and highlighted the partnership’s significance in achieving shared goals in the Indo-Pacific region.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to attend the upcoming Quad Summit in Wilmington, Delaware on September 21, where he will meet with US President Joe Biden, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida.
India’s Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) also confirmed the 2025 hosting, stating that the decision came following a request from the US side to host the summit this year.
PM Modi’s visit to the US will encompass a three-day schedule, including attending the UN General Assembly’s ‘Summit of the Future’ in New York on September 23. The Summit’s focus will be on finding multilateral solutions for a better future.
The Quad, comprised of India, the US, Japan, and Australia, has emerged as a crucial strategic partnership in the Indo-Pacific region, promoting cooperation on issues like security, trade, and technology. The upcoming summit and India’s hosting of the 2025 event are expected to further solidify the alliance’s influence in the region.
