Thu Sep 19 14:27:00 UTC 2024: ## Akron Zoo to Host National Eating Disorders Association Walk
**AKRON, OHIO** – The Akron Zoo will host the Cleveland area’s National Eating Disorders Association (NEDA) walk on October 5th at 9:00 a.m. This will be the first time the walk, held in cities across the U.S., will take place in Akron.
The event aims to raise awareness and funds for research and treatment of eating disorders, which affect an estimated 28.8 million Americans in their lifetime.
“By holding the walk in Akron, we’re hoping to capitalize on the Cleveland area while also drawing people from Akron and Columbus,” stated Krista Caldwell, a Pediatric Psychologist at Akron Children’s Hospital, a sponsor of the event.
Caldwell emphasized the importance of bringing the walk to Akron, highlighting the growing need for awareness and support in the community. Akron Children’s Hospital has seen an increase in youth seeking help for eating disorders since the COVID-19 pandemic.
The walk, which is suitable for all ages, will be a short loop around the zoo. Participants can enjoy zoo admission after the walk. Registration is $35 per person.
“We’re hopeful that this will be a good time for people to come together to raise awareness about eating disorders and raise funds for the treatment of individuals struggling with eating disorders,” said Caldwell.
The event is a valuable opportunity for individuals in recovery and their families to connect and receive support, while also contributing to a critical cause.
