**KYOTO, JAPAN – September 18, 2024** – Murata Manufacturing Co., Ltd., a global leader in electronic components, has announced the development of the world’s smallest multilayer ceramic capacitor (MLCC), measuring a mere 0.16 mm x 0.08 mm x 0.08 mm. This groundbreaking innovation, dubbed the “006003-inch size” MLCC, is 75% smaller in volume than the previously smallest offering, the 008004-inch size MLCC.
The need for ultra-compact components arises from the continuous trend of miniaturization in electronics. As devices become more sophisticated and intelligent, the demand for smaller, more densely packed components increases. This is especially true for smartphones, which can now incorporate over 1,000 MLCCs.
Murata, renowned for its expertise in ceramic capacitors, has a rich history of innovation in this field. The company’s relentless pursuit of miniaturization led to the development of the world’s first 008004-inch size MLCC in 2014, which found widespread application in smartphone modules and wearable devices.
The newly developed 006003-inch size MLCC is the result of years of focused R&D in elemental technologies. This innovation, according to Hidetoshi Nakagawa, General Manager of Ceramic Capacitor Marketing at Murata, is a significant contribution to the future miniaturization and improvement of electronic devices.
“This product is another world’s first in a long line of Murata’s market-defining MLCCs,” said Nakagawa. “It will significantly contribute to the future miniaturization and improvement of our customers’ electronic devices.”
The revolutionary product will be showcased at Murata’s booth during CEATEC JAPAN 2024, which will take place at Makuhari Messe in Chiba Prefecture on October 15, 2024.
This latest achievement by Murata underscores the company’s commitment to “Innovator in Electronics,” driving the electronics industry forward with groundbreaking technologies and innovative products.
