The Mofage PIVOT Magic Arm, a new monitor arm aiming for a toolless adjustment experience, has been reviewed by Newsshooter.com’s Matthew Allard. While the arm’s unique locking mechanism, similar to the discontinued Bright Tangerine Titan Arm, aims to simplify adjustments by eliminating the need to loosen and tighten levers, it faces several challenges in practice.
The PIVOT Magic Arm boasts a lightweight design at 445g and a maximum payload capacity of 5kg, making it suitable for use with digital cinema cameras but less ideal for mirrorless hybrids. The arm’s solid construction and interchangeable interface design are promising, but the lack of details regarding the upcoming accessories is a drawback.
In testing, the arm demonstrated a successful toolless adjustment, but only with monitors utilizing ARRI locating pins. The lack of compatibility with SmallHD monitors due to different pin standards, combined with the required force needed for adjustments, hinders its practicality. The reviewers also highlighted the arm’s inability to fully lock without a tool, potentially causing loosening during movement.
Matthew Allard concludes that while the PIVOT Magic Arm has a promising concept, its current form is limited by its compatibility issues and lack of a secure locking mechanism. To truly compete, Mofage needs to address these shortcomings by adding SmallHD compatibility and a more reliable locking system. The PIVOT Magic Arm is expected to retail for $129 USD in three color options.
