Thu Sep 19 06:19:00 UTC 2024: ## Perikatan Confident in Mahkota By-Election Despite Challenging Odds

KLUANG – Datuk Seri Azmin Ali, Bersatu supreme council member, has expressed confidence in Perikatan Nasional’s chances of winning the Mahkota by-election despite admitting it’s a challenging seat. While acknowledging the challenging demographics with only 55% Malay voters, Azmin believes the current political climate and public sentiment against the federal government favors Perikatan.

“Nothing is impossible in politics, especially in the current situation,” he said, highlighting public dissatisfaction with Putrajaya’s performance. Azmin emphasized the need for a strong campaign strategy and machinery to secure the seat.

Despite speculation of a PAS boycott, Azmin confirmed that all Perikatan component parties, including PAS, have been actively assisting Bersatu since the start of the campaign. He cited PAS’s decision to send Datuk Nik Mohd Amar Abdullah as a representative and the deployment of Johor PAS leaders to assist in the Mahkota campaign.

Similarly, Azmin highlighted Gerakan’s involvement, with Johor Gerakan chief Datuk Teo Kok Chee deploying their local team to Pandan Tengah in Mahkota.

Perikatan is expected to announce its manifesto for the Mahkota election within two days, focusing on key issues that their candidate, Mohamad Haizan Jaafar, will champion in the Johor state legislative assembly.

The by-election is scheduled for October 2, 2023.
