AUBURNDALE, FL – Elijah Dias, a junior linebacker for the Auburndale Bloodhounds, is making waves in the high school football world, proving his potential is no mere freshman fluke. The 6-foot, 195-pound standout has been committed to the University of South Florida since his freshman year, a testament to his remarkable talent and athleticism.

Dias’ journey to the top began in middle school, where his athletic prowess impressed coaches and scouts alike. At just 14 years old, he dominated summer workouts at Auburndale, outperforming even the upperclassmen.

“When he came in as a ninth-grader during summer workouts, I thought he was a transfer from another school,” said first-year Auburndale head coach Antonio Thomas. “He literally beat every player on our team in every sprint, every stadium we ran.”

His potential didn’t go unnoticed. The University of South Florida coaches, recognizing Dias’ exceptional ability, extended an offer during his freshman season.

Now, Dias is making a name for himself, ranking among the top juniors in the state. He is one of only two Polk County players listed in the 247Sports composite rankings, coming in at No. 85.

“He’s a linebacker, and he’s always been very explosive at the position,” said Thomas. “I think those are a couple of traits that made them (USF) interested in him early. He flies around, he makes plays. He plays to the whistle.”

Dias’ athleticism is undeniable. He possesses a natural instinct for the game, but he’s also a student of the sport, breaking down opponents on film to refine his strategies.

“I feel like what I’m best at is reading the play,” said Dias. “As long as I’m scanning the backfield and I see what’s going on, what formation they’re lining up in, then I understand what’s going on. I’m reading the backfield and that’s helps me to understand what I’m about to do next and how I’m about to react to the play.”

Beyond his individual skills, Dias has emerged as a leader for the Bloodhounds, inspiring his teammates with his energy and dedication.

Looking ahead, Dias remains committed to USF, a school that has made him feel like part of the family. He’s eager to develop his skills and continue his rise in the football world.

“I commited to USF because every time I go over there, they treat me like I’m already there,” he said. “They respect me, they keep in contact with me. My mom loves them, they love my parents, they love my whole family, and I just feel like if I go over there to USF, I can do a good job.”
