Thu Sep 19 06:00:00 UTC 2024: ## Bray Dog Owner Warns of Drug Danger Near Bray Head
**Bray, Co. Wicklow** – A local resident has issued a stark warning to dog owners after his pet became seriously ill after ingesting cocaine and cannabis near Bray Head.
Ian Bolton, who was walking his labradoodles, Sailor and Maisy, in the Raheen Park area last month, says Sailor became ill after disappearing into the bushes for a short time. The dog was later found unable to move and was rushed to the vet, where tests confirmed the presence of both THC (marijuana) and cocaine in his system.
Bolton claims the incident was a result of drug paraphernalia discarded by rough sleepers who have set up tents in the area. He had previously alerted Bray Municipal District Council to the issue three weeks prior, warning of the potential danger to pets and children.
“I sent them photographs and said this is an accident waiting to happen,” Bolton said. “I was really annoyed that they didn’t take any action.”
The council confirmed that they had received Bolton’s email but said the matter was being passed on to the relevant staff member, who was on annual leave. Councillor Joe Behan, who was also contacted by Bolton, raised the issue at the September meeting of the Bray Municipal District.
While the gardaí were notified, they reported no knowledge of tents or drug activity in the area.
Bolton emphasized his sympathy for homeless individuals but expressed concern about the lack of response from the council regarding the issue. He is urging the council to take immediate action to address the problem.
This incident follows reports of similar incidents in other parks in north Wicklow and south Dublin, where dogs have become ill after ingesting drugs.
While unable to comment on individual cases, Dr Peter Wedderburn, a local veterinarian, confirmed that this is a common issue during summer months. He warned dog owners to be vigilant and to keep their pets away from potential hazards.
The incident highlights the ongoing problem of homelessness in the area, and the need for increased resources and support for those experiencing homelessness.
