**Changzhou, China:** Young Indian badminton star Malvika Bansod continued her impressive run at the China Open, securing a historic quarterfinal berth in the Super 1000 tournament. The 22-year-old, ranked 43rd in the world, overcame a tough challenge in the round of 16, defeating two-time Commonwealth Games medalist Kristy Gilmour of Scotland in a thrilling three-set battle.

Bansod, who now leads the head-to-head against Gilmour 3-2, battled for over an hour to secure a 21-17, 19-21, 21-16 victory. This marks the first time she has reached the quarterfinal stage of a Super 1000 tournament, calling it a “dream come true” and the biggest achievement of her career.

The Indian shuttler attributed her success to her improved strength and ability to handle the challenging conditions in Changzhou. “My retrieving is working well, I am able to control the shuttle better than the others,” she said. “The conditions are a bit tricky for both players, but I’m able to handle it better.”

Bansod’s remarkable journey at the China Open continues with a tough quarterfinal matchup against fourth seed and two-time world champion Akane Yamaguchi of Japan. While Yamaguchi has previously defeated Bansod twice, the Indian shuttler is confident she can pull off an upset, stating, “Hope for the best. I am in good form, let’s see how it goes tomorrow. I will give my best.”

Bansod’s impressive performance has made her the lone Indian representative remaining in the competition. Her journey to the quarterfinal stage is a testament to her hard work and determination, and badminton fans across India will be eagerly watching her next match hoping for another historic victory.
