Fri Sep 20 10:19:51 UTC 2024: ## India Dominates Day 2 of First Test Against Bangladesh, Enforces Follow-on

**Chennai:** India put on a dominant performance on the second day of the first test against Bangladesh, securing a commanding 227-run lead after bowling out the visitors for a meager 149. This followed their first innings total of 376, which was built upon a stellar century by Ravichandran Ashwin.

The day began with Bangladesh resuming their innings at 13/2, still trailing India by a massive 363 runs. However, the Indian bowlers continued their relentless assault, making quick work of the Bangladeshi batsmen.

Jasprit Bumrah was the pick of the bowlers, taking a sensational 4-wicket haul, while Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja picked up 2 wickets each. Shakib Al Hasan top-scored for Bangladesh with 32 runs.

The Indian bowling attack was particularly impressive, with Bumrah’s pace and movement proving too much for the Bangladeshi batsmen. The Indian fielders also played their part, holding on to crucial catches.

The Indian team, already 264 runs ahead, has enforced the follow-on, meaning Bangladesh will have to bat again, this time aiming to avoid an innings defeat.

**India’s Early Dominance:**

India’s dominance started from the first session, when Bumrah dismissed opener Shadman Islam in the very first over. Akash Deep followed up with a double-wicket maiden over, removing Zakir Hasan and Mominul Haque.

The Indian bowlers continued their pressure, with Siraj dismissing the dangerous Shanto after the lunch break, and Bumrah adding another wicket in the form of Mushfiqur Rahim.

Jadeja then took two quick wickets, removing key batsmen Liton Das and Shakib Al Hasan, putting Bangladesh firmly on the backfoot. Bumrah then took his fourth wicket of the innings by removing Hasan before the tea break.

Siraj wrapped up the innings by cleaning up Nahid Rana, giving India a substantial lead.

**Indian Batting Performance:**

India’s first innings was built upon a 199-run partnership between Ashwin and Jadeja for the seventh wicket. Ashwin scored a magnificent 113 runs, while Jadeja contributed 86 runs. Young Yashasvi Jaiswal also made a valuable contribution with 56 runs.

**Follow-on Enforced:**

With Bangladesh failing to reach even 150 runs in their first innings, the Indian captain Rohit Sharma opted to enforce the follow-on. This gives India a strong chance to win the match outright and gain an early advantage in the two-match series.

The second innings is currently underway, with India looking to bowl Bangladesh out once again and secure a comfortable victory.
